But here at ESPN bowl prediction headquarters in downtown Indianapolis, we're not afraid of any circumstances. So let's get to the picks, from campus CFP sites through traditional bowls and all the way to the national title game on Jan. 20 in Atlanta.

The first round of the inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff is over, and boy, howdy, were those games underwhelming. They were so bad -- HOW BAD WERE THEY? -- they were so bad that it led to every talking head in the college football universe complaining and arguing about the format with some even saying wins aren't that important.

ESPN’s college football punditry seems to be showing favoritism toward the SEC, but it is really showing favoritism toward the art of the “take.”

The Peach Bowl is unfamiliar territory for both teams. Only Arizona State has ever played in the Atlanta-based bowl; that was back in 1970 when Frank Kush’s Sun Devils out of the WAC completed an unbeaten season 11-0 with a 48-26 victory against North Carolina at Georgia Tech’s Bobby Dodd Stadium.

The TV ratings proved views were interested. Each of the four games averaged 10.6 million viewers. That’s more than the four the non-CFP New Year’s bowls after the 2023 season averaged (8.14 million), and also topped the average for this year’s four major conference championship games (10 million).
