Israel said it hit 120 targets in southern Lebanon within an hour, as its expands in operation in the country across multiple fronts including Beirut, where Hezbollah was targeted overnight.

A southern suburb with a strong Hezbollah presence was hit, as events marking the 7 October attacks begin around the world.

By Maya Gebeily, Timour Azhari and Alexander Cornwell BEIRUT/JERUSALEM (Reuters) -Israeli air attacks battered Beirut's southern suburbs overnight and early on Sunday in the most intense bombardment of the Lebanese capital since Israel sharply escalated its campaign against Iran-backed group Hezbollah last month.

Israeli fighter jets continued to pound Beirut on Sunday as additional evacuation orders were issued throughout southern Lebanon.

Israel issued evacuation orders for parts of Lebanon on Saturday night. Hezbollah also fired rockets into northern Israel.

" The U.S. military has not been directly involved in attacks on Gaza, and Washington has pushed unsuccessfully for a ceasefire there. But the U.S. is Israel's largest weapons supplier and has supplied billions of dollars in military aid in the last year as part of a longstanding agreement.
