Saturday's car parade will not only carry the menorah, but various community members will participate, as well. In the past, people have sat on their front steps and porches to watch the parade go by. Educating parade-watchers about Jewish history, including, of course, the story of Hanukkah, will be important.

This is the 14th year Menorah in the D has taken place in downtown Detroit, and organizers said they hope this tradition continues to grow year after year.

On the second night of Hanukkah, city leaders in Kansas City met with members of the Jewish community to recognize and celebrate the festival of lights.
