I have 16 and 11 yo boys. We will be driving through Bloomington on our way home tomorrow and are trying to decide if this would be something fun to do for a short amount of time to break up the trip. We have a membership to our hometown museum that allows free admission here, so it'll be free to stop. Just don't want to make the effort if everything is geared toward little kids.

The eleven year old is certainly not to old for the wonder lab. I believe it is really target for his age and knowledge. The 16 yo can certainly find things that are of interest to him if he is into science. As an old man I continue to find things at the lab that are fun and interesting if nothing more than trying to explain the science involved in the demonstrations to the younger children. So I would go and spend a few hours it would be worth the stop and after go down the street to a place called Bubbs for some great hamburgs and milkshake. The big ugly might be the perfect meal for the 16 yo.
