You're a good ways from Ellwood Park, definitely not walkable. Patterson Park is very safe during the day, surrounded by old row homes, and a lot of activity during the day, especially on the weekend. Wouldn't really see anything at night fall, the only time I would be a little leary (with any park though). Check out Patterson Park flea market held twice a year in Spring and Fall. Hope this helps.
